A paid trainee work scheme to introduce and skill young people to work in the film industry:


 

Expectation TV are filming a new BBC2 comedy series in Bolton during April – June 2021.   The series is called ‘Alma’s Not Normal’, an autobiographical comedy written by & starring a Bolton comic called Sophie Willan.  The series follows a successful pilot that was aired earlier in 2020.

Sophie Willan & Expectation TV are running a training scheme on the series where they can offer 2 young people (18-24yrs), who are currently not in employment, in education or training, the opportunity of a paid job placement, joining a department they are interested in. A casual worker without a permanent position with ability to take time off may also be considered. The aim is for them to get a proper sense of how TV works over the whole 5 weeks shoot with a week’s prep; so, they can experience how it is all put together. 


 

As Sophie is a care leaver, she is keen for young people from a similar background to apply, for young people to apply who can demonstrate that they have the passion and drive to make the most of this fantastic opportunity. and Bolton at Home provided sponsorship to make this happen!


 

Trainee Paid Work Scheme Specification:

  • Candidates aged 18-24years currently not in employment, education, or training (NEET), or in casual work without a permanent job

  • A Bolton resident

  • Muse be available for the whole programme and commitment to full participation

  • Must have some interest in the film industry and motivation to make the most of opportunity, the right person will have the right attitude, it is a big commitment and so excellent work ethic essential

  • Not essential to have any work experience, however desirable. Must demonstrate why right candidate for the opportunity, mut have good communication skills, demonstrate attributes that lend themselves to making the most of the training programme and doing a good job

  • Will have to work within Covid health protection standards, mask wearing, social distancing, hand hygiene and other PPE as required

  • Needs a phone, warm clothes, sturdy shoes

  • Ability to travel across the borough and into Manchester as need to meet on location, this may include 7am starts and some night shoots (Expectation TV can contribute to travel expenses)

  • Ability and commitment to work up to 50 hours per week, across weekdays, weekends, and evenings. Needs to be flexible to meet needs of filming schedule and across various locations

 

Trainee Paid Work Scheme Employment Details:


 

  • Expectation TV will be the employer for the 6-week proposed paid job training placement, successful candidates will have a temporary contract of employment

  • Successful candidates will be asked to sign a safeguarding disclosure around working with children on set, this is an essential eligibility requirement for the employment of suitable candidates

  • Successful candidates will be asked to undertake a basic H&S online course & an online course for Basic Awareness of Covid-19 both generating a certificate to be held by candidate & Expectation TV

  • The successful candidates will be asked to complete a reflective skills and knowledge log

  • Expectation TV will aim to support progression for work in the industry via introduction to Screenskills Trainees Finder scheme

  • Expectation TV will provide a letter headed reference on successful completion of the training programme
