A Three Day Festival pass will give you access to 22 sessions and all the screening at all of our venues. Over 150 films, 22 talks and five masterclasses and various networking events.

The Hub 

1st - 3rd October
 

In partnership with the VFX department at Bolton University the festival brings an exhibition of costumes, make up, prosthetics, props and models to The Hub within the Market Place. 

With a virtual reality jukebox the lab is a space to drop in and explore and investigate the fast moving and innovative side of VFX film-making, costume design, prop making and VR.

Pro-motion "Hands on the kit"
Wednesday 12pm - 5.00pm

Pro-motion Hire will be in the Green Room offering "hands on" with the latest broadcast technology including the RED, Sony, Canon and ARRI range, HMI, Tungsten, and LED lighting, shoulder rigs, camera stabilisation, dollies, jibs and much more. Meet the guys, check out some kit, pick their brains and pick up a brochure.

Tuesday 1st October


The festival begins with talks including, "Networking in the Creative Industries", "Script to Screen" with Creative England, "The do's and don'ts of the pitch" and "How to break into the industry". 

A stellar line up of documentary films and guest speakers include 6 times RTS winner director Richard Macer and the Peabody and RTS winning production company Spring Films. We have 1:2:1 sessions with Doc Society who'll also be sharing some of their films with supporting Q&A's with the directors and news on the latest funding. Northern Docs kick off the day sharing information on this new development scheme in partnership with BBC three. 

Wednesday 2nd October


Three dedicated blocks of experimental films in competition will screen in a gallery format over the three days of the festival. Selected artists have been offered a further four weeks at Neo Gallery with the exhibition running up until 2nd November. 

Bolton born artist Hetain Patel headlines the space with his video installation "The Jump".

Thursday 3rd October


Our focus moves over to animation, VFX, women in film, women in animation and masterclasses in editing, sound design , sales, marketing and distribution. 

Guest speakers include McKinnon & Saunders, Aardman, Factory and BAFTA and OSCAR nominated animator Barry Purvis. 

The final night concludes with "The Best of the Fest 2" including some of the best films this year and the announcement of the award winners.

One to One surgery - Doc Society

A non-profit founded in 2005 committed to enabling great documentary films and connecting them to audiences globally Doc Society bring people together to unleash the transformational power of documentary film. Staning in solidarity with filmmakers and working to unite them with new friends and allies they offer advice, support and funding for emerging and established film-makers.

Hannah Bush Bailey (BFI Doc Society Fund Production Manager) will be offering 1:2:1 meetings (by appointment)

One to One surgery - BFI NETWORK

BFI NETWORK offer short film production and early feature development funding to new writers, directors and producers based in the North with a creative track record.
