Where the streets are a stage for politics, art and affection, a gringo can only watch. The result is a mixtape-portrait of modern day Brazil seen through the eyes of the visitor. Atrás de uma tela verde, o estrangeiro percorre os labirintos de um turbulento - porém encantador - Brasil. Quando as ruas são palcos de política, arte e afetos, cabe a um gringo apenas observar. Operation Jane Walk
OPERATION JANE WALK Robin Klengel & Leonhard Müllner Winner of the Vimeo Staff Pick Award at the International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam (IDFA). http://leonhardmuellner.at/operation-janewalk/ leonhard.muellner@ufg.at A city tour through the architecture of an Online Shooter Operation Jane Walk is based on a dystopian multiplayer shooter. In this work the game’s digital war zone is appropriated with the help of an artistic operation. Within the rules of the game’s software, the militaristic environment is being re-used for a pacifistic city tour. The urban flâneurs avoid the combats whenever possible and become peaceful tourists of a digital world, which is a detailed replica of Midtown Manhattan. While walking through the post-apocalyptic city, issues such as architecture history, urbanism and the game developer’s interventions into the urban fabric are being discussed. Edited Live Online Performance / Video: 16:13 min, Software: Tom Clancy's: The Division (Massive/Ubisoft Entertainment)

The Green and Pleasant Land
13:32 / HD Video / 2017 Synopsis: Taking as its subject different perceptions of the British landscape, this short animated film is a roaming exploration of national identity and collective history set in a post-Brexit environment. Using a 3D model of the United Kingdom, a variety of visual scenarios – poignant, nostalgic and absurd – are enacted using a ‘live’ animation technique. These scenes draw directly on user comments found below the line of videos and online newspaper articles concerning the English and British countryside. What emerges is a meditation on the British landscape – both as an imaginary vision and as a new world digitally constructed. The Green and Pleasant Land is a site where opinion, memory, history and highly charged emotion are given form, and are opened up for discussion and critique. This film was commissioned by Arebyte gallery and developed through a residency with support from Arts Council England. It was exhibited as part of Arebyte’s 2017 programme. Don't know what
Employing the method of single frame editing, primarily focused on sound, the realistic film image transforms into a surreal, structuralist and finally even abstract film. It creates a musical composition while experimenting with the human voice and transforming language into sound and music. DONT KNOW WHAT questions classical rules of different film genres by combining elements of avant-garde film / video art and entertainment cinema. "DONT KNOW WHAT" is this week's Staff Pick Premiere.
